Project Name: LSE Butlers Wharf Halls of Residence
Location: 11 Gainsford Street, London SE1 2NE
Principal Consultants: Mortimer Issacs, LSE
Project Duration: 8 weeks
The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is the world’s leading centre for social sciences. Logan Construction was awarded the contract for the refurbishment of and alterations to the basement communal spaces in a halls of residence.
This was a fast track project for completion within eight weeks. The scope of works involved areas in the basement of Butlers Wharf halls of residence to provide a common room, games room, and computer room, along with refurbishment of the associated corridors.
The refurbishment of the rooms was undertaken in an efficient fashion as the residence hall is used year round by students during term time and holiday makers in non-term time. Surrounding rooms on the same floor and the floors above and below will be occupied.
Close coordination between us, LSE Estates and the residence hall managers was essential to minimise disturbance to residents and allow the works to progress smoothly.
Situated in a densely populated area with challenging logistical problems, no parking on site, no noisy works before 10am, we successfully managed the issues.
