Guildbourne House Completion
July 2024
Guildbourne House is an 8-storey office building in Worthing town centre, with the offices being partially occupied throughout the duration of the works.
It has an area of approximately 900m2 and an external perimeter of 150m. Floors 2 and up, which form the office levels, are located above the roof of the Guildbourne Shopping Centre. The front of the building and the site compound fronted onto a public space. Hoardings were erected to create the compound and to protect the scaffold.
The backlog maintenance project at Guildbourne House in Worthing encompassed a wide range of tasks, including external repairs to concrete and brickwork elements, maintenance of the southern stairwell (both internal and external), window servicing/ double glazing unit replacement and repair work to address any internal damage resulting from water penetration. This comprehensive project aimed to ensure that the building’s exterior and interior were properly maintained and any issues related to water penetration were addressed.
This project was registered as a Considerate Constructors Scheme site and achieved an impressive score of 40 out of 45.
The six-storey office building was surrounded on three sides by a two-storey shopping centre. Due to its shape, a portion of the shopping centre roof had lightweight construction, so the structural engineer needed to use a cradle for access to the east and west elevations instead of a scaffold, which would have imposed too much load. Scaffold was set up at both ends to provide access and for repairs.
