Police Station
Essex and Kent Police
This Design & Build project was for the refurbishment of the existing police station to form a new chemical enhancement laboratory for Essex Police.
The enabling works involved the isolation of existing services to enable the demolition of existing non-load bearing walls within the ground floor and one partition wall within the first floor.
The main works comprised the installation of a new single storey glazed entrance link between existing buildings, including external ramp and handrails. This was followed with the internal remodelling of the main building to form laboratory designated spaces and offices.
Features delivered in this project included:
- Installation of heating, cooling and air handling equipment within weatherproof self-contained enclosures
- External and internal insulated supply and extract ductwork
- Full electrical re-wiring to suit new internal layouts and extension
- Security installations including access control
- CCTV, fire and intruder alarms
- Specialist laser systems for forensic analysis
- Removal of existing and installation of new generator and UPS installation
- BT alterations
- Complex M&E installations including ventilation, BMS panels and controls and installation of new AHU and associated external plant
This was an extremely challenging contract with a duration of only 14 weeks in a tight site area. Many challenges were encountered throughout the project but overcome by a combination of good management, planning and the cooperation of the subcontractors.
The scheme was delivered on time and within budget, much to the satisfaction of the client and we were awarded a further £8.2m contact at a second Essex Police Station.
“Logan managed and delivered a complex refurbishment project despite numerous challenges faced from it being an operational police station.”
