Westcliff High Grammar School For Boys
About This Education Project
We were hired to undertake a new build extension and refurbishment project for Westcliff High School for Boys. The purpose of the project was to improve the school’s learning facilities.
The new extension is a single-storey building that expands the school’s science offerings. It includes a laboratory, science teaching and learning stations, clinical wash basins and a lobby area. The extension was constructed using blockwork with metsec and cladding.
In addition to the new extension, we were also tasked with refurbishing the school’s existing Technology Block. This involved carrying out full mechanical and electrical works, decorating and installing a new internal lift. The refurbished Technology Block now includes two upgraded design technology rooms, an IT suite and a food technology room.
One of the critical aspects of the project was to refurbish and hand over the Technology Block before the start of the new term in September. We carefully phased the program to ensure that we delivered the works on time and in compliance with the agreed critical path. The Technology Block was handed over on time, prior to the new term, with the science classrooms being handed over following this as agreed.
Planning the project was not without its challenges. The fact that we were delivering the project in an operational school, with a live Girls School immediately adjacent and nearby local theatre, gardens and fire station all posed challenges. We had to mitigate these challenges by collaborating with all stakeholders in the planning and design stage. This helped us to develop a suitable traffic management and logistics plan that could segregate the site and minimise disruption.
