Wrotham School Sports Hall

Divergent Partnership Trust

This project provided an exciting new sports facility for the students at Wrotham School, to replace the existing and outdated offering.  Now finished, we delivered a bespoke three-court sports hall with modern changing facilities and a welcoming new reception.

Wrotham School’s new sports hall is of steel frame construction, developed upon a concrete slab.  Extensive piling and drainage works were delivered in order to enable the streamlined construction programme.  Specialist FF&E, including bespoke school sports equipment, were also installed to ensure the new hall sets an exemplary benchmark in physical education.

Owing to the ‘live School environment, we implemented a bespoke customer care methodology to ensure site users were protected.

Critically we worked to ensure all School pupils and staff recognised the risks involved with construction.  One such example was our delivery team providing an engaging presentation to the School’s pupils.  As well as clearly advising pupils of the local site risks, this also provided them with information on a career within the Construction industry.

On the Northern border of our site was Grange Park School, which is a specialist facility for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.  We recognised the vulnerability of this School’s users and understood the importance of efforts being made to minimise the risk and disruption to both Wrotham School and Grange Park School.  As a result, we implemented a weekly review meeting between all stakeholders, a robust segregation strategy, an approved traffic management plan with suitably cleared banksmen and a security clearance system for all site operatives – inclusive of enhanced DBS checks for Logan Site Management.

“Thank you so much for coming in to talk to our Year 9s yesterday – it was an excellent presentation and was really appreciated. It was eye-opening to see the wide range of jobs available, and really interesting (and relevant) to hear the different routes each of you had taken to get to where you are.

Most of our Year 9s will have little idea of what they want to do once they leave education, but they will now understand what a wide range of jobs are available within the construction industry – and even if they decide construction is not for them, it will encourage them to start thinking about future careers.

Please can you also pass on our thanks to William, Louise, Lee, Jim and Shaun – I thought everyone presented really well – we know it’s not easy talking to 150 Year 9s!”
